The new avant garde

I love Mary Katrantzou S/S11 collection, she so confident in digital print and pushes it to it limits with technique as well as themes. Her recent trompe l'oeil print collection creates a three dimension, drawing you into an interior view with her garments shapes playing with lampshade skirts and fringing. It's really quite bizaar and clever.
And with my current research into the artists of The Ballet Russe, their pioneering and avant garde designs in costume and theater.Their experimental work illustrates the transition from the old and traditional past to modernism in the early twentieth Century.
Are we witnessing a similiar movement on the catwalk today with designers playing with new technology, breaking away from tradition to create a new aesthetic for textile design?
